Bridge Buliding Competiton

this was my design for the bridge building competition

as you can see the bar in the middle has no tension so we could use string at this part

3.1.3 Basic Programing

1) design Basic Program
  • here s my basic program

Conclusion:

1) what is the best way to make sure that all of your devices are in the correct ports of interface and have been wired correctly.
  • to label everything is the best way
2) Explain the importance of labeling blockfunctions with a flow chart
  • it makes everything organized and simple

3.1.5 Variable Functions

4) create the Program to the right
  • Initial program created

12) create notes to deterimne the process

14) how long was the light on
  • light was on for 5 seconds
Conclusion

16) Describe how you might modify the Plus command so that it can reset a variable block to 0 within an program
  • put the whole Program on a continuous loop
17) What might an industrial or manufacturing keep count or keep track of ? Describe an example
  • manufacturing line  in the car industry keeping track of the numbers of parts prodused

3.1.6

1. build support system

2. Add motor and gear box

support system and motor

5. is this an open or close loop system
  • it is a closed system
6. Where do you think the gear box would have come to rest had you set the program to cycle 120 times
  • it will stop on the same place you started
7. What problems and indecencies might this process cause if used in an assembly mechanism designed to run 24 hours a day 7 days a week
  • it would wear out the small motor
switch design

9. is this an open or closed loop system
  • closed
10. how prices would this device be if it were designed to cycle 500 times
  • it would be very precise
this is the program to run the mechanism back and forth 20 times

Conclusion

1. Describe an open loop system that has not already been given as an example
  • gas tank

2. describe a closed loop system that ha not already been given as a example
  • elevator that we are making in class

Money Ball

1) What was the “Moneyball”approach that Billy Beane and Peter Brandt applied to the Oakland Athletics 2002 season? Was it an “art” or a “science”? What single statistic did they boil their value consideration down to? (In class research/discussion)
  • science
  • boiled down to on base precentiage

    2) What is the equation used to calculate OBP? (In class research/discussion)

OBP = \frac{H+BB+HBP}{AB+BB+HBP+SF}
formuls used to calculate on base precentage

3) What is design? (In class research/discussion)
  • it as the blend of art and sience

4) Describe 3 situations where movie characters (intentionally or not) applied a step from the PLTW 12 Step Design Process. Explain both the (a) situation as well as (b) how the step is relevant:
1 -step 1 define the problem
  • when billy bean talks to the scouts about them knowing what the problem is

2 - the prototype whith the a A's experimenting with mone ball allowing the red soxs to use the money ball aproch

5) What is “Leadership”? List the three aspects of leadership that we come up with in class. (In class research/discussion)

1 - direction
2 -aliment
3 -commitment

6) Describe 3 circumstances from the story where a character exercised effective leadership:
1 -the firering of jieombie

2 - when billy bean  moves from the traditional approich to the money ball aproch

3 - peter shows effective leadership when he talks with the players

7) According to the movie, what was the A’s record at the start of their winning streak? _76__ : __51_8) What does this ratio simplify to (roughly)? __4_ :   5 9) How long was the A’s record setting winning streak? __20_ games won.

10) Given the A’s win/loss ratio at the start of the streak (listed two questions above), what are the odds of winning 20 games in a row? Run the numbers. (In class research/discussion)

.000037

11) Based on your calculation, do you think the A’s got lucky or was there something to the Moneyball approach?
  • the buying of players that got on base was a key thing in there 20 game win streak
12) Did Billy Beane strictly apply the “science” of Moneyball to his management approach? Was there an “art” to his efforts as well? Describe a circumstance where he broke from the Moneyball approach to make a positive change for the team.

  • he aplied the money ball approch to his life as well when he turned down the red soxs offer

  • he broke of the money ball aproch when he fired geombi which was one of his money ball pickes because he was a bad influnce ofn the team.

activity 3.1.2 folw chart

Flow charts

triangle:
  • represents
oval:
  • represents start and finish
diamond:
  • represents decision making
Boxes:
  • represents order's
Arrows
  • represent direction
here are my wo flow charts

flow chart No.1  represents the order of weighing an object and determining where it goes

Flow chart No.2 represents the same process repeated ten times

engineering ground zero

1)What different "trades" (types of construction work) are featured in this video? Name at least three.
  • construction workers
  • engineers
  • designers
  • carpenters
  • cement workers
  • steel companies 2
  • glass company
  • electricains

2)What aspect of the project is most interesting to you? Why is that?

the aspect that was most interesting to me was the designing of the tower and the monument.  designing the monument to look beautiful and yet in a void.  with the tower trying to make it look beautiful and to be safe with concrete blast walls and then adding slots to make lights come in to make the tower glow.
